We Know What Mayo Can Bring – Ben Youssef

Posted on September 26, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs goalscoring debutant Khanyisa Mayo has been lauded by assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef as a potential difference-maker this season.

Mayo, 27, scored on his debut in the 1-1 draw against Marumo Gallants, having made a late season-long loan move to Chiefs from Algerian giants CR Belouizdad where he was not registered for the 2025/26 season.

Why Chiefs Changed To 3-4-3 Formation

Having been a long-term target for the Soweto giants, his arrival was met with major optimism from supporters and the club’s hierarchy as he followed in the footsteps of his father, Patrick, to don the famous gold and black shirt.

“For Khanyisa Mayo, we were waiting for his papers and now he’s available to play in the PSL, but we know that physically he’s not yet ready for a full 90 minutes, it was prepared before the game he will do 50-60 minutes,” he explained after his 59-minute showing.

“I think the performance of Mayo, as a [debut], he did very well, he performed very well, he made many opportunities and he scored the first goal – we need more from Mayo, we know his quality, we know what he can do for the team and what he can bring this team.”

Mayo scored six goals, with one assist in 41 games for CRB in his solitary season in Algeria.
