Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr says the team needs to learn from rivals Orlando Pirates.
Amakhosi have lost four consecutive matches, which saw them eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup and Nedbank Cup in a space of weeks.
The season, which started promising for Chiefs is now turning into a nightmare.
Speaking to Robert Marawa on 947, Motaung Jr said Pirates have done well this season, which puts them ahead of Amakhosi.
“People can try and compare to say Pirates have lost one less game. It’s not about that, they are on a different journey, we have a lot to learn from the journey that they have taken on,” he said.
“They started the season on not one of the best foot, fought back to be able to take two trophies, to be able to put that performance even against us.”
Last month, Chiefs were given a 3-0 thumping by Pirates in the first Soweto derby of the season.
Motaung reflects on Pirates defeat
Motaung Jr admitted that the team had to sit down and have a tough conversation after the heavy loss.
“I think we have to fully take responsibility, Rob. One, you don’t lose against your arch-rivals, and two, you don’t lose in that manner — that’s a fact,” he said.
“We had some really deep soul-searching conversations and sit-downs with the players, the coaches, ourselves and the staff in general.
“We embarrassed ourselves on that day, at our home, in front of hundreds of thousands in the stadium and millions watching at home. That’s a fact.”
After the Pirates defeat, Motaung defended the club’s decisions to continue with Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze following Nasreddine Nabi’s sacking. The two co-coaches worked with Nabi before the Tunisian tactician was given the boot.
