Was Magawana Correctly Flagged Offside In Chiefs Defeat? Hlungwani Explains

Posted on November 4, 2025

Former PSL referee Victor Hlungwani has applauded assistant referee Zakhele Siwela for correctly flagging Saziso Magawana offside in their narrow Betway Premiership defeat to Kaizer Chiefs on Friday night.

With the tie looking like it was heading for a stalemate, Magawana beat the Chiefs defenders before slotting past Brandon Petersen.

Coach Gavin Hunt was spotted celebrating what he thought was the late winner only for it to be cut short after Siwela raised his flag for an offside.

“The Prinicipal” has since explained that the Durban City attacker was indeed correctly flagged for scoring while in an offside position.

“Zakhele flagged for offside in this situation,” he said on Soccerzone.

“We’re saying Coach Gavin, you said you are not sure whether this was an offside, this was a big offside!

“So, correct decision by Zakhele Siwela to flag for offside and this goal is not scored inline with the FIFA laws.”
