Wandile Duba’s form and big club’s changes

Posted on October 25, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs have had a mixed start to the season despite a promising start.

Having won their opening three matches without conceding, Amakhosi found themselves in a familiar position having gone four league matches without a win.

A goalless draw against Siwelele midweek highlighted the team’s lack of creativity and goals upfront.

New signing Khanyisa Mayo is yet to find his feet, while the likes of Wandile Duba and Glodio Lilepo have struggled to find goals.

Duba was Kaizer Chiefs’ hero last season during their Nedbank Cup triumph but the 21-year-old is yet to score or create an assist

“I think I didn’t start my season very well, so that is why the coach (Nasreddine Nabi) ended up taking me out of the team. I wasn’t giving him what he wanted, so I’m still working on myself and being better and getting back to the starting line-up,” Duba told the media last month.

Kaizer Chiefs finding it difficult to score goals

With Nabi gone, Duba has seen limited gamtime. The talented attacker though feels comptition is good for him and it was only a matter of time before he finds his scoring boots.

“I think every coach needs a striker that scores in his team. Flavio and Mayo got in the team and they both scored and I wasn’t doing that. But with the tactics and everything, I think I was doing very well. But it was just a matter of me getting the net so…” Duba said.

In terms of changes at the club, Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has confirmed goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has been appointed as the club’s new captain. The 31-year-old shot-stopper wore the captain’s armband in the Soweto giants’ goalless draw with Siwelele FC in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday

Can Amakhosi bounce back from poor form?
