Velebayi – Joining Chiefs Changed Me

Posted on February 6, 2026

Kaizer Chiefs winger Asanele Velebayi has explained how joining the club changed his life as well as how he’s adjusting to new life at Naturena.

Velebayi joined Chiefs at the beginning of the season after spending all his career at Cape Town Spurs where he was developed. In the past, we’ve seen players moving from small to big teams and then struggle.

It is however a different case with Velebayi explaining that a move to Chiefs changed him to be a better person and made him focus more.

“For me personally, obviously there’s been a huge change in my life, not only as a footballer, but as a person as well,” Velebayi told the media.

“But because Kaizer Chiefs is a big club, it has changed me a lot, and it has helped me focus more because of the pressure and in the lifestyle outside football.

“It has helped me stay focused more knowing that there are sacrifices that I gotta do now, there are things that I can and cannot do.

“So, it has been positive in that way. It has helped me focus more and just stay on the ground.”
