Updated Betway Premiership LOG after Kaizer Chiefs lose

Posted on September 17, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs lost for the first time in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season – and conceded their first goals of their campaign – when they were well beaten by Sekhukhune United at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Heading into the clash. the Glamour Boys were unbeaten in their opening five matches (four wins, one draw) and had kept a clean sheet in terms of goals allowed.

However, both those ‘records’ fell against Babina Noko.

Took five minutes to concede a goal

Sekhukhune United won 3-1 after the scoreline read 1-1 at half-time.

It took only five minutes for Amakhosi to concede their first goal of the season when Tsepo Matsimbi stormed down the right and crossed for Bradley Grobler to finish at the far post.

To their credit, Kaizer Chiefs replied eight minutes later when Flavio Da Silva pounced on a loose ball in the box following a goal-mouth scramble and finished from close-range, making it two goals in two games.

Grobler then scored his second in the 50th minute, before Thabang Monare added a third in the 56th minute.

A raft of substitutions by Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi notwithstanding, the Glamour Boys could not penetrate the Sekhukhune United defence as they stubbornly hung onto their lead until the final whistle.

Top of the standings

With their win, Sekhukhune United moved back to the top of the standings, ahead of defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Kaizer Chiefs remained in third place, now three points behind Sekhukhune United and one point adrift of Masandawana – now the only two remaining unbeaten sides in the league.

Meanwhile, in other matches played on Tuesday night, Chippa United beat Orbit College 2-1, while Durban City beat Siwelele 2-0.

Kaizer Chiefs will next be in action away from home in their CAF Confederations Cup first preliminary round first leg match against Angolan side Kabuscorp on Saturday, 20 September at 17:00 (SA time).
