Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch FC will face off in the MTN8 final for the second consecutive year.

The Buccaneers edged out the Cape side 3-1 in last year’s final to claim another silverware under ex-coach Jose Riveiro. With the Spaniard gone, Abdeslam Ouaddou will look to win his first trophy since joining Pirates in June.

The Buccaneers and Stellies have already met this season with the Sea Robbers claiming a 1-0 win at the Orlando Stadium.

Orlando Pirates looking to win their fourth MTN8

The Buccaneers’ MTN8 journey began with a comfortable 2-0 win at home to Polokwane City before a tough challenge in the form of rivals Mamelodi Sundowns. The two giants produced a tight semifinal tie which had to be decided on penalties, with the Buccaneers eventually prevailing after each leg finished with a one-all scoreline.

Which Pirates players will play in the MTN8 final?

Ahead of the final, there have been several boosts in the Bucs camp. Among them is midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi, who is back in full training after withdrawing from the Bafana squad through a minor knock.

He is one of nine players who departed camp during the international break, while club captain Nkosinathi Sibisi and midfielder Makhehleni Makhaula could also be back in contention for spots in the match day squad, having recovered from their respective injuries.

Orlando Pirates have won their last four MTN8 finals in the past five years.
