Kaizer Chiefs are still awaiting clarity on the potential signing of Mamelodi Sundowns striker Etiosa Ighodaro, who has one year left on his current contract.
“A decision from Sundowns is key,” a source revealed. “Ighodaro has a year remaining, and Chiefs can only proceed if Sundowns release him as a free agent or agree on a transfer.” AmaKhosi remain interested, but the striker is also exploring opportunities locally and overseas. “Reports of him signing with Chiefs are premature,” the insider said. “Nothing is finalized.”
Nabi hopeful ahead of new season
Following back-to-back seasons without MTN8 qualification, coach Nasreddine Nabi knows this season is critical. He’s encouraged by how new signings Ethan Chislett and Flavio Silva have integrated, a further boost to next seasons hopes.
“They need time to fully gel, but they’re adapting well and starting to meet my expectations,” Nabi said. “Our aim was to bring in players who can lift us above last season’s level.” Positive signs have emerged from pre-season games in the Netherlands against strong opponents. Nabi said, “The players are beginning to understand our style and bonding as a unit.”
Despite the optimism, club legend Tsepo Masilela has voiced doubts about new left-back Nkhanyiso Shinga’s defensive skills. “He’s shown some vulnerabilities in one-on-one situations,” Masilela said. “Defenders must win those duels to build confidence.” Masilela also questioned Shinga’s tendency to invert on the pitch, which seemed to disrupt the defensive shape.
