Tragic news: Stellenbosch FC youngster dies

Posted on February 1, 2026

Stellenbosch FC’s Jeandre Gaffoor has reportedly drowned at the age of 20 on Sunday in Cape Town.

While the club is yet to break the silence, the news was confirmed by Gaffoor’s agency via social media.

PROSPORT CONFIRM JEANDRE GAFFOOR’S PASSING

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Jeandre Gaffoor,” the Prosport announced. “Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, Stellenbosch Football Club, and the entire football community during this incredibly difficult time.

“Jeandre’s presence, passion, and contribution to the game will always be remembered. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may those who knew and loved him find strength and comfort in the memories shared,” the message concluded.

Gaffoor played for Cape Town Spurs from the age of 11 up to 19 when he was promoted by the club’s former coach, Ernst Middendorp, in 2024.

Hailing from Cape Town’s Blackheath, he made a surprise move to Stellenbosch FC’s DSTV Diski Challenge team in 2025.

Gaffoor was known for his versatility of playing as a central midfielder, central defender and left-back. One of his career highlights was leading Spurs’s under 19 team to the 2024 Bayhill Championship, scoring a screamer in a 4-1 win over FN Rangers at Athlone Stadium.

The South African sends its deepest condolences to Jeandre’s family and friends.

May your soul rest in peace, young man.
