Sekhukhune United head coach Eric Tinkler says Medupi Thokolo proved in his first week of training that he was ready for first team football in the top-flight.
The young defender joined Sekhukhune after an impressive season in the second-tier with Casric Stars, where he was initially spotted playing Varsity Football with Vaal University of Technology (VUT).
And the towering defender has continued his seamless progression up the ranks, having started in the 3-2 win over TS Galaxy in the MTN8 last week before delivering a Man of the Match display in the 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates to open the league campaign, at Orlando Stadium.
“I think three weeks ago he was playing for Casric in the playoffs and obviously I watched the two games against Cape Town City, and I could see his ability defensively,” Tinkler said.
“I wasn’t entirely sure about his ability on the ball as they play a different brand of football to what we want, but he joined us, as a young player the CEO spoke to me about him.
“I was happy to sign him, but he was meant to be a progression player, and I think within the first week in training, I saw him as a starter, he shows a lot of maturity for his young age, very comfortable on the ball.
“He does all the right things… yes he made one or two mistakes this evening but that’s expected, and he’s raised his level which I’m happy for him… I think he has a bright future.”
