Sekhukhune United head coach Eric Tinkler admits speculation around Keletso Makgalwa has unsettled him but the club would not stand in his way if an offer that meets his valuation arrives.
Makgalwa, 28, was among the leading performers in the league with his career revived upon returning to the top-flight with Sekhukhune United via a second in the Motsepe Championship Foundation with Upington City.
He was nominated for the Premier Soccer League Footballer of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season awards for his impressive displays as an inside forward with six goals and 11 assists in 32 games across all competitions.
However, there was said to have been some uncertainty around the player during the off-season which Tinkler said was addressed.
“I think we’ve had that conversation a few times already [about his future], I tend to disagree, I don’t think he’s done that well in the three games he’s played, he had an assist in the first game but that was from a corner,” Tinkler said when asked by iDiski Times about his future.
“But he hasn’t created a lot of opportunities for himself or for others in these last two matches. There’s always these rumours, especially after being nominated for Player of the Season, having the most assists, blah, blah, blah.
“But a lot of that comes down to media, not always the media, sometimes more the agent that starts putting out that information and we’ve made Keletso aware we would never stand in his way of getting a better contract somewhere else.
“But there needs to be an offer and there hasn’t been, so it’s all talk and what he must be aware of, he’s a professional footballer, he has a contract with Sekhukhune United and he needs to duplicate what he did last season.
“Then people will take him more serious, it won’t just be hearsay from the agent and from the press, the club’s will be contacting Sekhukhune.”
Babina Noko travel to the Cape Winelands this weekend to face Stellenbosch in their first leg MTN8 semi-final at Danie Craven.
