TikTok won’t win you the league, Mayambela warns Orlando Pirates stars

Former Orlando Pirates winger Mark Mayambela has lashed out at his former team following their shock 1-0 loss to Sekhukhune United in their opening league match.

Under new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, the Buccaneers signed 12 new players. Earlier this month, it appeared the club was on the right track following their 2-0 win over Polokwane City in the MTN8. A shock home defeat at Orlando to Babina Noko has raised eyebrows.

The retired midfielder felt the Bucs players lacked professionalism during the match.

Mayambela not happy with Orlando Pirates

“Trying is not good enough, to be honest. Trying is not going to close the gap between the club and the leaders of the league or the team that has won the league eight times in a row,” Mayambela told SoccerBeat.

“You know, we need a little bit of personality and professionalism because there are moments in the game when you watch and feel like players are doing things for TikTok or for social media, hoping that people will upload them and so on. For me, it was not good enough.”

Mayambela feels that Orlando Pirates should return to their basics and look at players who helped bring the team to its current position. He felt players should be fully committed and not focus on TikTok or creating social media content.

Can Pirates challenge for the league?
