THREE top candidates to replace Nabi

Posted on September 18, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly set to part ways with Tunisian tactician Nasreddine Nabi after revelations about his coaching qualifications.

Chiefs fans around South Africa have mentioned Eric Tinkler as a prime candidate.

Who are the others?

Three candidates to replace Nabi at Kaizer Chiefs

Eric Tinkler

Now at the helm of an impressive and improving Sekhukune side, former Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler is seemingly the first choice of several Chiefs fans across Mzansi. The 55-year-old enjoyed a stellar playing career, winning AFCON in 1996 and collecting 55 caps for Bafana. At club level, he enjoyed stints in Italy, Portugal and England. His head-coaching career spans 10 years after starting out with Orlando Pirates in 2015. He’s also collected silverware as a boss with SuperSport and City.

Gavin Hunt

As a former Chiefs boss, the legendary Gavin Hunt knows about the pressure of the job. Whether or not the ex-SuperSport boss wants to return to Naturena is another matter.

Jose Riveiro

This probably couldn’t go down too well with Chiefs’ fierce Soweto rivals. It’s a long shot, but the Glamour Boys could do worse than considering Jose Riveiro as a candidate to take the reins.

Big changes are coming, but who will manage Kaizer Chiefs?

“It’s true that the squad is big and the technical staff, management, the sporting director, Kaizer Junior, is working on options to try offload the squad, to give some players, who didn’t have consistency or time to get more game-time, to other teams,” coach Nasreddine Nabi said.

Who will oversee those exits, however? News filtered through on Wednesday that Chiefs and Nabi have parted ways after the club revealed that the Tunisian tactician doesn’t hold the correct coaching qualifications to sit in the dugout for the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

Is Zwane’s Kaizer Chiefs adventure over?

Mainly a benchwarmer last season, fan favourite 23-year-old Zwane is nowhere to be seen this campaign, not even making a matchday squad so far. We all know about his class and prowess on the ball, but doubts remain over his ability to do his defensive duties off the ball. This shortcoming could put paid to his Chiefs career before it truly begins.

Next up in the league for Kaizer Chiefs

After a superb start to the season, it’s back to the drawing board for Chiefs after their 3-1 home defeat to an impressive Sekhukhune side. Babina Noko and Sundowns are now the only remaining unbeaten sides in the division. Chiefs, meanwhile, face TS Galaxy away on Sunday, 21 September at 15:00. Who will be in charge, though?
