Three Points & Soweto Derby Bragging Rights Belongs To Chiefs

Posted on November 16, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs claimed three points and the bragging in the Soweto derby as they beat Orlando Pirates by 2-0 at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Soweto derby kicked off on a slow note after there were doubts that it would go underway. Chiefs took control of the game taking it to the Pirates. After 13 minutes Pirates defender Jabulani Mokone was the first person to be booked due to his unsportsmanlike behaviour.

30 minutes gone without any action or threat to the goalkeeper. Both sides looked to settle into the game but nothing threatening. But Amakhosi were more aggressive.

The first half ended goalless.

The second half kicked off, and the rain had stopped. 51st minute, Amakhosi draws the first blood through Kamogelo Malepo (1-0).

Chiefs made it more difficult for Pirates as they doubled the lead 2-0 in the 73rd minute, Naledi Hlongwane redirected Thulani Mabaso’s free kick to beat the Pirates’ goalkeeper. Buccaneers with a mountain Molotov to climb.

Pirates are fighting back, but the Chiefs are proving to be solid as a rock defensively – in the 80th Talakani Mazhamba had been booked for time-wasting.

Chiefs moved to sixth place after this win while the Buccaneers remain top of the table with 25 points, three points ahead second second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns.
