Three midfield signings for Kaizer Chiefs next season
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

With Kaizer Chiefs reportedly closing in on two central defensive signings for next season, the next area to strengthen is undoubtedly central midfield.

This article is the first of three midfield profiles looking at players who could reshape Amakhosi in 2026/27.

The Soweto giants face another high-pressure transfer window in June after failing to taste any glory this season.

KAIZER CHIEFS MUST BOOST MIDFIELD URGENTLY

Amakhosi crashed out in the last 16 of the Carling Knockout on penalties against Stellenbosch FC, lost 2-1 to the same club in the Nedbank Cup last 32, and exited the CAF Confederation Cup at the group stage.

With Betway Premiership title prospects unrealistic, Amakhosi will have to accept another trophyless season.

As a response, the club is moving to reinforce key areas. This article is the first of three midfield profiles looking at players who could reshape Kaizer Chiefs in 2026/27.

For any club to dominate or challenge for silverware, central midfield must carry some of the best talent in the league. The number six and number eight roles remain the heartbeat of any side. This season, Lebohang Maboe has shown flashes of quality in the number six role, even though his natural position is further forward.

Meanwhile, Siphesihle Ndlovu—signed as a replacement for Yusuf Maart—has struggled to replicate the dynamic levels he once showed at Maritzburg United, Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United.

Here is a midfielder Kaizer Chiefs need to control matches and add competition in midfield next season.

Grant Margeman (27, Siwelele).

The former Ajax Cape Town and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder is the epitome of grit. Hailing from the tough streets of Bonteheuwel in Cape Town, Margeman is cut from the same Ikamva cloth that has produced some of South Africa’s finest talents.

He became Ajax’s main man at just 18 before sealing a high-profile move to Mamelodi Sundowns at 22 in 2020. Known as “Pacman” for his sharp movement, low centre of gravity and relentless engine, Margeman later joined SuperSport United, now Siwelele. His coach Lehlohonolo Seema underlined Margeman’s telling role for his team.

POTENTIAL PARTNERSHIPS

With over 150 Betway Premiership appearances at 27, he is proven at the highest local level. His ability to contribute both defensively and offensively would complement Lebohang Maboe perfectly. Margeman could also offer the possibility of rekindling his understanding with Siphesihle Ndlovu from their time together at SuperSport United.

Crucially, Margeman would require no adaptation period in the Betway Premiership. He would deliver immediate impact as the ideal long-term replacement for Yusuf Maart.

This is the first of three midfielders to be profiled as Kaizer Chiefs look to rebuild a title-challenging squad for next season.
