‘They don’t understand SA football’

Posted on November 25, 2025

Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brian Baloyi has criticised Amakhosi’s co-coaches, saying they lack an understanding of South African football.

Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze were appointed as co-coaches last month, replacing Nasreddine Nabi. The duo have managed to get the Glamour Boys back in the title race after winning back-to-back league matches.

Baloyi, however, feels the co-coaches are hurting Kaizer Chiefs.

“I think the co-coaches’ downfall is going to be the chopping and changing of the team, and a lot of times, unnecessarily so,” the Chiefs legend said on SoccerBeat.

“The one thing when you look at Vilakazi, when he started, he gave confidence to everyone around him. He is confident on the ball, and that is what makes a Chiefs player.”

Baloyi wants Kaizer Chiefs to do away with co-coaches

“Spider-Man”, said Amakhosi, needed to bring in an experienced technical director to guide Ben Youssef and Kaze for the remainder of the season.

“We have to be honest about their inexperience. These two coaches have never coached at the highest level; they have always been assistant coaches, and now they are coaching one of the biggest clubs on the continent,” Baloyi added.

“The club needs to make a decision quickly about the next man because clearly there’s no way they’ll keep them next season. You need to bring an experienced technical director, who will help them finish the season, if they are going to finish the season because they are going to make a lot of mistakes.”

The Kaizer Chiefs legend feels that as long as the co-coaches lack an understanding of local football, Amakhosi will not improve much this season.

“They don’t understand the South African players, our way of thinking and playing with the ball,” Baloyi said.

Can Ben Youssef and Kaze take Chiefs to glory?
