The New Royal AM Owner – Roy Moodley

Durban, South Africa – Chockalingam “Roy” Moodley, the influential businessman behind Royal Security and a figure with deep political ties, has been confirmed as the new owner of embattled Premier Soccer League (PSL) club Royal AM.

The sale, finalized after months of uncertainty, ensures the team will remain in KwaZulu-Natal. Moodley, who recently secured a major South African Revenue Service (SARS) tender in 2023, steps in following the club’s financial collapse under previous owner Shauwn Mkhize, whose tax defaults led to SARS seizing control.

An official announcement is expected this evening, with the PSL set to outline plans for Royal AM’s postponed fixtures and future logistics.

Moodley’s takeover brings hope—and scrutiny. Known for his political connections and business controversies, his entry into football raises questions, but also offers Royal AM a lifeline as they battle relegation. Players, who returned to training this week, have reportedly been promised hefty bonuses to secure survival.

The club’s next match is scheduled for April 5 against Magesi FC—if the PSL gives the green light.

One thing is certain: Royal AM’s new era begins under a polarizing figure with the resources—and ambition—to reshape its future.
