Sundowns Leave It Late In Polokwane

Posted on January 27, 2026

Mamelodi Sundowns netted late to beat a stubborn Sekhukhune United 2-0 in a Betway Premiership clash at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night.

Iqraam Rayners had half a chance in the 30th minute to open the scoring but he put his effort wide.

Nine minutes later, Brayan Leon Muniz rose highest but his header also failed to trouble Renaldo Leaner in the Sekhukhune goals.

With half-time approaching, Leaner again denied Muniz from close range before pulling off another massive save from Iqraam Rayners from an acute angle.

Thapelo Morena’s long-range effort sailed wide off target in the 47th minute.

With 15 minutes left, Tashreeq Matthews unleashed a powerful shot from inside the 18-yard area but again Leaner was up to the task keeping the score at 0-0.

Peter Shalulile’s acrobatic shot 12 minutes from time sailed just inches off the Babina Noko goal with Leaner well beaten.

With the tie looking like it was heading for a stalemate, Nuno Santos and Muniz stepped up to score for the visitors in the 91st and 93rd minute as Masandawana pulled three points clear of second-placed Orlando Pirates.
