Sundowns Go Top Of The Table

Posted on September 28, 2025

Mamelodi Sundowns moved to the top of the Betway Premiership log after beating Richards Bay 4-1.

Masandawana returned to winning ways after their 1-0 defeat to Golden Arrows, with Miguel Cardoso handing Nuno Santos his first start of the season.

Sundowns opened the scoring in the 14th minute already after new signings Nuno Santos produced an inch-perfect cross to Tashreeq Matthews, whose initial header was saved but he scored on the rebound.

Iqraam Rayners had a great chance to make it 2-0 after 25 minutes, but he was denied by Otieno from a tight angle.

Sundowns did take a two-goal from the following corner after the ball fell to Malibongwe Khoza, who calmly slotted home.

But just five minutes later, Gabadinho Mhango dispossessed Khoza before cheekily chipping the ball over Ronwen Williams to pull one back for the hosts.

Sundowns restored their two-goal lead just before the break after Khuliso Mudau was brought down inside the box – Rayners stepped up and converted the spot-kick.

Sundowns continued their dominance in the second half, and eventually Matthews completed his brace after 62 minutes. The winger converted a rebound off the bar after Rayners had hit the woodwork.

The home side brought home the three points to move past Sekhukhune United who had lost to Polokwane City earlier in the day. Sundowns now have 21 points from 10 games, one more than Sekhukhune but also with a game more.
