Mamelodi Sundowns supporters are calling for the club to bring back former coach Rulani Mokwena.

Masandawana have had a poor start to the 2025/26 season after getting eliminated from the MTN8 by rivals Orlando Pirates in the semi-finals. Angry fans surrounded the team’s bus in Atteridgeville after Downs crashed out of the MTN8.

Miguel Cardoso took over from Manqoba Mngqithi end of 2024 and only won the Betway Premiership. His side lost the Nedbank Cup in the semi-final before crashing out of the Club World Cup in the first round.

Sundowns fans feel Rulani was better than Cardoso

Ladt year in July, the club parted ways with long-serving coach Rulani Mokwena. The 38-year-old coach has since moved to North Africa.

Saturday’s defeat to Pirates saw many Sundowns supporters call for changes at the club. Calls for Cardoso to get fired have gained momentum in the past few days and the coach is now underpressure just three weeks into the new season.

@MarhubaneN wrote: “I remember how Pirates & Chiefs fans celebrated when Sundowns let go of coach Rulani. Deep down, they knew we were shooting ourselves in the foot… and now we’re playing like Wits.”

@Mlu___N2 wrote: “Mamelodi Sundowns’ biggest mistake was the firing of Coach Rulani Mokoena. He built a monster of a team. His team gave opponents headache.”

Should Downs recall Mokwena?
