Sundowns Ease Into CAFCL Group Stage

Posted on October 27, 2025

Mamelodi Sundowns have booked their berth in the CAF Champions League group stage after a 2-0 win over Remo Stars at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday.

Despite a healthy 5-1 lead from the first leg in Nigeria last week, head coach Miguel Cardoso still named a strong line-up though he opted to rest captain Ronwen Williams who was replaced by Denis Onyango in goals.

The home side took the lead just 20 minutes in as Nuno Santos fired into the top left corner to make it 1-0.

On the stroke of halftime, it was 2-0 to Masandawana with familiar face Peter Shalulile increasing the lead for the South African champions.

Sundowns sealed their passage with a massive 7-1 aggregate score.

Chances were far and few in the second period as Sundowns booked a place in the group stage for the 11th consecutive time and will see themselves seeded along with the likes of Al Ahly, RS Berkane and ES Tunis just to mention for a few.
