Sundowns decide to offload R15 million worth star

Posted on September 18, 2025

Mamelodi Sundowns are home to some of the best defenders in the country.

In fact, many of their ‘fourth choice’ defenders can easily walk into the starting lineup of a rival team.

At right-back, Mamelodi Sundowns have Khuliso Mudau, Thapelo Morena, Zuko Mdunyelwa and Kegan Johannes.

Imagine that, four Bafana Bafana worthy defenders competing for one spot at Mamelodi Sundowns!

Struggling Sundowns star set for loan move

According to the latest reports, struggling defender Kegan Johannes could soon leave the club!

Johannes joined Sundowns at the beginning of last season from the now defunct SuperSport United.

In total, Johannes has managed to make just six appearances for Masandawana.

From the six appearances, only two were as part of the starting eleven!

Now, the struggling Sundowns defender has been linked with a loan move away from the club.

“From what I know, he will find game time difficult because the coach believes other players in that position are far ahead of him,” an insider told Citizen.

“The team is open to letting him go on loan so he can get minutes elsewhere. With Khuliso (Mudau) back in the squad, competition for places will only intensify.”

Johannes still has a future at Chloorkop

Kegan Johannes is only 24-years-old. He’s currently the youngest right-back at the club. It makes complete sense for Sundowns to loan him out as opposed to selling him outright.

In fact, across the backline only Malibongwe Khoza (21) and Asekho Tiyani (19) are younger than him.
