Sundowns coach comments on next match vs Mokwena

Posted on November 24, 2025

Rulani Mokwena’s MC Alger are waiting for Mamelodi Sundowns, and Kabo Yellow are keeping things calm.

The Brazilians are preparing for a trip to Algeria next weekend, where they’ll face their former coach.

MC ALGER TO HOST MAMELODI SUNDOWNS IN THE CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Sundowns opened their CAF Champions League campaign with an impressive 3–1 win over St. Eloi Lupopo, a game dominated by Portuguese maestro Nuno Santos, who finished with two goals and an assist for Marcelo Allende.

The victory lifted the Brazilians to the top of the group, level with Al Hilal but ahead on goal difference after the Sudanese side beat Mokwena’s Alger by 2–1.

With that result, next weekend’s match suddenly carries extra weight, but the Sundowns boss Cardoso brushed off the idea that facing Mokwena changes anything. “It’s just a detail,” he said when asked about taking on the former Kabo Yellow boss.

For him, the job remains simple: prepare properly, analyse MC Alger, and go after the three points.
“Next match, a Champions League match. We will analyse the team behaviour, prepare ourselves as we go there, make the best and hope the best is enough to win three points. Normal,” Cardoso added.

NO BETWAY PREMIERSHIP ACTION

While the likes of Orlando Pirates resume domestic football midweek, Sundowns’ game against Polokwane City has been postponed until further notice, leaving Cardoso with a full week to prepare for Alger.

That’s the message coming out of Chloorkop, normal. No drama. No distractions.

Sundowns will meet MC Alger on Friday, 28 November at 21:00, before returning home to wrap up the year with a Betway Premiership clash against Siwelele FC on 3 December.
