There’s fresh firepower in the Mamelodi Sundowns attack. The eighth-consecutive Betway Premiership champions have confirmed the signing of Colombian striker Brayan Leon.
The announcement was made on social media this morning, without disclosing the reported transfer fee.
The 24-year-old León arrives after spells in Colombia, where he built his reputation as a reliable attacking option rather than a high-profile star.
BRAYAN LEON ARRIVES IN THE BETWAY PREMIERSHIP
“New chapter begins,” the club announced. “Brayan Lèon has arrived at Mamelodi Sundowns. A new name. A new challenge. Welcome to the Home of the Champions,” the note added.
Leon came through at Deportivo Pereira, where he was part of the squad that won the 2022 Torneo Finalizacion. During that campaign, he scored eight goals in 15 matches, earning a move to Atlético Junior in early 2023.
After a short stay there, he joined Independiente Medellín, where his performances became more consistent. In 2025, he registered 13 goals and seven assists in all competitions.
For Sundowns, the signing appears to be about balance. The champions have rotated several players in attacking roles this season.
Peter Shalulile has seen reduced game time, Arthur Sales has often been used outside the traditional striker role, while Iqraam Rayners has featured on the flank. Lebo Mothiba has mostly been used from the bench.
MAMELODI SUNDOWNS’ SEASON SO FAR
Sundowns currently sit second on the log, trailing leaders Orlando Pirates by two points. Under coach Miguel Cardoso, the team has recorded seven wins, five draws and only one defeat so far.
Notable results include a comfortable 3–0 win against Magesi FC and a 4–1 victory over Richards Bay FC.
However, their cup ambitions have been cut short. Sundowns were eliminated in the MTN8 semi-finals on penalties by Orlando Pirates, before suffering another penalty shootout exit in the Carling Knockout Round of 16 against Marumo Gallants.
Attention has since shifted to the CAF Champions League, where Kabo Yellow have progressed to the group stage. They opened their campaign with a 3–1 win over FC Saint-Eloi Lupopo on November 22, 2025, followed by a goalless draw away to MC Alger on November 28.
