Stellenbosch FC secured a two-goal advantage in the MTN8 semi-final first leg at Danie Craven Stadium after beating Sekhukhune United 2-0 on Saturday evening.

The second semi-final between Stellenbosch and Sekhukhune United kicked off at Danie Craven Stadium.

The game started on a slow note with both sides trying to settle into the match on a tough surface. After six minutes, Stellenbosch were forced to make an early substitution after Ashley Cupido suffered an injury and was replaced by Lesbian Nku.

After 15 minutes of football, Stellies lost the ball in middle after Thato Khiba gave the ball to Vusumuzi Mncube and he took a shot but it was straight at Sage Stephens.

In the 22nd minute, Stellies got a corner and well delivered by Nku, and it found Nigerian Kazie Godswill Enyinnaya in the box, and he made no mistake beating Renaldo Leaner to make it 1-0 for Stellenbosch.

Stellenbosch doubled the lead, after a great counter attack via Nku, who played a pinpoint pass that found Devon Titus, who was one-on-one with Renaldo Leaner and made no mistake.

The second half kicked off, Stellies had opportunities to score a third immediately after the break when Ibraheem Jabaar set through Titus who shot over the crossbar. In the 54th minute, Stellies had yet another chance after Titus played a through pass to Nku, but his shot struck the crossbar..

Stellenbosch managed the second half aiming to keep Sekhukhune United at bay as they were avoiding to concede an away goal. Meanwhile, Babina Noko were pushing for something but were too toothless on the night.

Stellies now carry a two-goa cushion into the second leg, which will be played at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium next Saturday.
