Stellenbosch FC suffered a 2-0 defeat to Sead Ramovic’s CR Belouizdad in the CAF Confederations Cup away from home.
Following Singida Black Stars’ 1-0 win over AS Otoho earlier, the CR Belouizdad game against Stellenbosch FC was an intense one.
The Algerian giants needed to bounce back following a 4-1 defeat away from home to AS Otoho on matchday two. They started the game the way they wanted to after scoring inside five minutes through Abdennour Belhocini.
But it was a wide open game between the two sides, Stellenbosch had a glorious opportunity after a miscommunication at the back of CRB but Sanele Burns’ chip was cleared off the line.
Immediately after that CRB had a their opportunity to double the lead but Oscarine Masuluke produced a brilliant save to keep the scoreline at 1-0. Stellenbosch had all to play for in the second half.
Stellenbosch came back in the second half looking for an equaliser but CRB defense stood firm and the home side made it 2-0 via Farid El Melali in the 90th minute.
The result sent Ramovic’s CRB top of Group C with six points, followed by Stellies and Singida with four. CRB travel to South Africa this coming week ahead of MD4 clash against Stellenbosch.
