South Africans shift focus to Pirates v Stellies after Bafana Bafana

Posted on September 10, 2025

The international break is officially over after Bafana Bafana’s 1-1 draw against Nigeria on Tuesday night.

And almost every South African will switch focus to the MTN8 final between Orlando Pirates and Stellenbosch FC.

This year’s MTN8 final will be staged at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday, 13 September.

Kick-off is at 18:00.

PIRATES AND STELLIES TAKE CENTRE STAGE

The Buccaneers could become the first club in the history of the PSL to win four consecutive MTN8 titles.

They first lifted the trophy in 2022 under the tutelage of Jose Riveiro who added two more titles before leaving Pirates earlier this year.

Now, with this being a repeat of last season’s final, Stellies will be seeking nothing but revenge against Pirates.

And they are likely to meet a team short of energy as the majority of Pirates regulars were national team duty.

Those include Sipho Chaine, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Thalente Mbatha, Sipho Mbule, Oswin Appollis, Kamogelo Sebelebele and Relebohile Mofokeng.

Stellies are known for their high-tempo football with speed in the final third, and it will be interesting to see how Pirates deal with that.

WILL BUCS COPE THIS TIME AROUND?
