SIX new signings out with injuries

Kaizer Chiefs currently have a total of 10 players injured, and they will be unavailable for their upcoming match against Siwelele. Among these, six are new signings.

The injured players are George Matlou, Thabiso Monyane, Ethan Chislett, Paeka Mako, Karabo Molefe, Given Msimango, Rushwin Dortley, Lebogang Maboe, Etiosa Ighodaro, and Nkhanyisa Shinga.

The club has indicated that three of the injured players could return to full match fitness very soon

“Despite these setbacks, there’s a silver lining. The squad is seeing a wave of recoveries that could bolster the team in the coming games. Lebohang Maboe, Etiosa Ighodaro, and Nkanyiso Shinga are edging closer to full match fitness, offering the coaching staff a welcome selection dilemma,” Chiefs said in a statement.

Maboe, Shinga, Ighodaro and Chislett are yet to make their debuts for Amakhosi, having signed during this past transfer period.

Mako and Monyane have played several matches for Chiefs but suffered injuries. The former Orlando Pirates duo also had a history of injuries during their stay at Mayfair, which limited their gametime, especially last season.

Which injuries have affected Kaizer Chiefs the most?

Out of the 10 injured players, Monyane and Dortley are two players Amakhosi miss the most. Monyane made the right position his own before he got injured, while Dortley had been a key defender under Nasreddine Nabi for much of last season.

Amakhosi host Siwelele at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening, looking to get back to winning ways. Under Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, Chiefs have impressed early on in the season but struggled for form recently.

A win midweek could revive their league title hopes. Their biggest concern however, is their Saturday’s CAF Confederation Cup against Simba. A win will send Amakhosi into the group stages of the competition for the first time.

Can Amakhosi recover?
