SIX Kaizer Chiefs players out of contract end of the season

Posted on November 21, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs have six players who could be out of contract by the end of the season.

The players whose current contracts expire end of the season are Brandon Petersen, Dillan Solomons, Zitha Kwinika, Gaston Sirino, Pule Mmodi and Sibongiseni Mthethwa.

Petersen and Mthethwa have featured regularly for Amakhosi this season and will likely extend their stay in Naturena. Solomons and Sirino have seen little gametime this season and might be on their way out.

Former Kaizer Chiefs left-back Tsepo Masilela has shared his experience on how players normally act when their contracts are about to end.

“I have been in this situation before, but I didn’t see any negative things in the guys whose contracts are coming to an end. I remember when I was there, there were a lot of players who left for free. The likes of [Reneilwe] Letsholonyane, Morgan Gould, [Lehlohonolo] Majoro, just to name a few.

“In a team, the guys who normally play a lot are happy; those who don’t are normally negative or grumpy.”

Kaizer Chiefs currently have a large squad

Amakhosi are currently in the CAF Confederation Cup and will need to rotate their squad if they are to compete in Africa and the Betway Premiership.

Masilela said Kaizer Chiefs might be forced to chop and trim their squad at some point.

He felt the likes of Petersen and Mthethwa might be given an extra year, given how impressive they have been.

“Petersen has done well this season; he’s been a pillar at the back. I will give him a contract, maybe a one-year contract,” Masilela said on SoccerBeat.

When it came to Sirino, the Kaizer Chiefs legend said it would depend on how the team moves forward with Mduduzi Shabalala and Mfundo Vilakazi

“It looks like they want to build a team around Mdu; they want to protect him and give him a shot at the Bafana team. So this leaves a question mark on Sirino,” Masilela added.

“Firstly, when you are at that age, earning a big salary, and it goes to negotiation, where if you can take a pay cut, you get another year.”

On Sunday, Amakhosi face Al Masry at the Suez Stadium in Egypt.
