Peter Shalulile has thanked his teammates after equalling the Premier Soccer League goal scoring record of Siyabonga Nomvethe, revealing he wants to net 24 more this season.
Shalulile, 31, started his first game of the campaign, and netted his side’s second goal after Jayden Adams had opened the scoring in a hard-fought contest at Seshego Stadium.
It was his 129th in the PSL, equalling Nomvethe’s record just two weeks after it looked like he could be leaving Sundowns to join ES Tunis.
“To be honest, I just want to thank my teammates,” he told SuperSport TV.
“For us it’s just coming into the game and scoring goals. But I believe many more goals will come.
“I’m looking forward to the new season, my first start. I don’t want to mention more things about the top goal scorer because I know it’s going to end very well this year.”
Shalulile also revealed that he set himself a high target of netting 25 goals this season.
“To score many more goals, I believe that many goals will come, I just need to get my confidence back,” he added.
“25 goals, with God by my side it’s possible.”
Sundowns moved into third place and now switch their focus back to the MTN8 semi-final, where they will host Orlando Pirates at Lucas Moripe Stadium in the second leg.
