Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile has finally broken silence on his failed move in this transfer window before breaking the Premier Soccer League all time scorers record.
Shalulile was poised to leave the club with the player already having bid his goodbyes to his teammates and talks with Esperance de Tunis at an advanced stage.
However, there was a last minute u-turn from the player, while Al Ittihad of Libya and Al Hilal Sudan were among the suitors for the prolific striker.
But he made a surprise return to Chloorkop and has since scored two goals that took him beyond Siyabonga Nomvethe’ 129 record tally in PSL history.
“I won’t lie to you… I’m back, things didn’t go well… we were discussing and negotiating, paper work and all that,” he told Downs’ media department.
“I decided to call the Chairman and rather let me come back, add my experience and fight for my position.”
It’s believed Sundowns were open to the idea of a potential swap deal with Yan Sasse coming in the opposite direction – which also failed to materialise, with the Brazilian not keen for a move to South Africa.
Sundowns and Shalulile are back in action on 14 September after the international break, when they will host Magesi.
