Shabalala And Vilakazi Star As Chiefs Thrash Orbit

Posted on November 5, 2025

Kaizer Chiefs moved level on points with Mamelodi Sundowns after a 4-1 win over ORBIT College at FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening.

After a morale boosting qualification to the CAF Confederation Cup group stages, Chiefs followed up with a hard fought victory away against Durban City this past weekend.

And with confidence up, the technical team led by Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef opted for an exciting attacking line-up with Mduduzi Shabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi and Etiosa Ighodaro up top; while Asanale Velebayi earned his first league start.

It took just three minutes for the home side to open the scoring, which created further excitement in a decent mid-week crowed against the top-flight rookies.

However, the standard of football significantly dropped from both sides, with ORBIT slowing the pace of the game, where Chiefs were looking to attack with pace and intensity, especially from their youthful wingers, Velebayi and Vilakazi.

Ighodaro should have put Amakhosi 2-0 up shortly after the break but placed his effort over the post from point blank range, while Vilakazi and Thabo Cele also had attempts shortly after with Chiefs pushing hard to put the game to bed.

Eventually the second goal arrived just after the hour mark via Shabalala, a simple tap in after Ighodaro’s effort was blocked which sent the home supporters into a frenzy.

However, the game went into a state of chaos with some end to end football in the final half hour, starting with Ayanda Lukhele pulling one back and before even settling Vilakazi made it 3-1 with a stunning effort into the top corner of Sabelo Nkomo’s net.

The win moves the Soweto giants into second place level on 22 points with Mamelodi Sundowns, who have six more goals than Chiefs.
