Santos Talks Champions League Experience

Posted on January 1, 2026

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Nuno Santos has reflected on his journey in the CAF Champions League, after beginning his African football career in September.

The Portuguese joined the Brazilians at the beginning of the current season from Vitória de Guimarães.

He has played ten matches across all competitions, scoring three goals and registering two assists in the process.

He recorded all his three goals and two assists in the Champions League, opening his account against Remo Stars before scoring a brace against St Eloi Lupopo.

Santos described the Champions League as highly intense, with a vibrant atmosphere in the matches. He also said the travel is different from what he’s used to in Europe.

Usually, traveling across Africa is often longer and tougher than in Europe, where shorter distances make travel simpler.

“Playing in Africa’s top [elite] competition is an incredible experience. The intensity, the atmosphere and the travel are completely different but also inspiring,” Santos, according to Sundowns Magazine.

“To be part of a win that made history for the Club was unbelievable. When I scored that first goal, I thought about everyone who believed in me and that motivated me to want to do even more for this great Club.”
