Rwanda head coach Adel Amrouche has admitted that he has received a lot of interest in Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari.
Ntwari, 26, has been replaced Bruce Bvuma as Chiefs’ number two this campaign, with Brendon Petersen being first choice between the sticks.
He had a rare chance to show what he is capable of in the Carling Knockout against Stellenbosch FC, and kept a clean sheet before also saving a penalty in the shootout.
However, there was some controversy when he refused to be substituted just before the shootout, with new co-coach Cedric Kaze insisting the matter would be dealt with internally.
Ntwari then went into the national break with Rwanda, losing 1-0 to Benin and 3-0 to Bafana – with his national team coach shielding him from criticism for refusing his substitution, while also stating the club should consider letting him go because he’s too good to spend his time on the bench.
When asked to clarify his comments by this publication, Amrouche also confirmed there has been interest in the Amakhosi goalkeeper.
“A lot of teams contacted me, [but] the team [Chiefs] asked a lot of money. You must be realistic,” he told iDiski Times.
“It’s good when you have three very good goalkeepers instead of one and it’s difficult for me to say what I think, maybe because I want to protect my goalkeeper.
“Also, I must respect the club, the decision of the coach and the other goalkeeper of Chiefs.”
Ntwari was named in Chiefs’ traveling squad for their trip to DR Congo, where they will face AS Simba in the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup on Saturday at 15:00.
