Al Ahly head coach Jose Riveiro had a frosty press conference after picking up a 2-2 draw with Modern Sport over the weekend.
The former Orlando Pirates coach kicked off his Egyptian Premier League with a draw, in what was his fourth official match at the club after the three group stage games at the FIFA Club World Cup.
With Riveiro yet to win a game with his new side, the Spaniard was left frustrated after the final whistle.
“As a coaching staff, we wanted to win, especially since it was our first match in the Egyptian League,” he stated.
“The match was good, but perhaps the performance wasn’t as it should have been. I know things would have been different had we won.”
Riveiro was quizzed about some his decisions but brushed off the criticism.
“I am the coach and I decide who participates and who does not,” he continued.
“Why didn’t you ask me about El-Shenawy’s absence? I greatly appreciate Al-Ahly’s culture, which is to win only.
“The team will definitely improve as the matches go by. I have 27 players and I need everyone because I am participating in many tournaments and everyone will participate.”
Riveiro also stated that he will not comment on Egyptian media in a frosty presser after his league opener.
“I will not comment on the media in Egypt,” he added. “You are completely free to comment and analyse, but I will not comment on the media in Egypt.”
