Former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro says he has been impressed with Mbekezeli Mbokazi’s progress since he left the Buccaneers.
Riveiro is the one who promoted the centre-back from the side’s DDC team earlier this year with the player going on to impress in the black and white.
The 20-year-old has since become a dependable feature for Pirates being one of the captains this season while also playing key roles in the success of the national U20 team and senior side.
Riveiro spoke to Andile Ncube on Sports Night Live about Mbokazi’s personality and his confidence of showing his capabilities on the pitch.
“Personality is not only about your skills,” said the Spaniard.
“It’s about having the capacity to show the skills under pressure in a big stage, where everybody is looking at you. When players are special is because they have the capacity to do it in that moment. It’s that kind of personality.
“He has all the attributes to be a super athlete. He also has a lot of football in his brain but then he has the capacity to do it with I’d say arrogance in a positive way to showcase himself in front of a big audience.
“He came at 18, 19 years old playing for Pirates. I think right now he’s one of the captains of the team making an impact also in the national team.”
