Richards Bay coach Ronnie Gabriel has admitted that former striker Yanela Mbuthuma’s move to Orlando Pirates was a huge loss for the coastal side.
Mbuthuma, 23, was one of the Buccaneers’ newest signings in the off-season and also made his debut in their 2-0 MTN8 quarterfinal win over Polokwane City at the weekend coming in for Boitumelo Radiopane in the 60th minute.
Speaking to the media in the wake of their defeat eSgodini, Daniels bemoaned losing a player of Mbuthuma’s calibre but equally felt ecstatic for the pacey forward to have joined Pirates.
“Mbuthuma was a loss to the team. He did very well for us last season,” he said.
“He got us a few goals and it’s good that he went to a team like Pirates.
“But we managed to replace him with [Gabadinho] Mhango. We went like for like with the quality striker who’s been in that, got goals in the PSL.
“Maybe he could give us goals that Mbuthuma gave us last season.”
