Rele Reflects On His First AFCON

Posted on January 7, 2026

Bafana Bafana attacker Relebohile Mofokeng has reflected on his first Africa Cup Of Nations tournament saying it was a difficult one.

The 21-year-old who made his senior national team debut in the AFCON qualifiers last year was part of Hugo Broos’ team that travelled to Morocco for the 2025 edition.

He was named on the bench twice against Angola and Zimbabwe and featured against Egypt as a substitute while he started in the last 16 round match against Cameroon where Bafana lost 2-1 and exited the tournament.

In his reflection of his first major tournament, the Orlando Pirates starlet spoke about the tough competition he came up against, and the experience gained for future tournaments.

“I think it [my first AFCON] was difficult because you play against star players from around the world,” said Mofokeng on SABC TV.

“I think it was very difficult, but I learned a lot. I saw what happens [at the tournament] now I have a bit of experience I think it will be better next time.”
