Reghecampf Sends Warning To Sundowns

Posted on January 25, 2026

Al Hilal coach Laurențiu Reghecampf says he expected his side’s CAF Champions League match against Mamelodi Sundowns to go but wants a different side awaits in the return fixture next week.

The Sudanese side snatched a valuable point against the 2016 champions with 10 men in a 2-2 draw in group C to stay in second position in the pool with five points, same number of points as Sundowns from three matches.

The coach pointed out at how his side let the Brazilians enjoy position but added they weren’t dangerous even with the possession. Reghecampf went on to say his team will be different in the home leg in a week’s time that will do everything to win the game.

“We expect this kind of game we agreed to give them the possession because they have very good game in possession, but not dangerous in any moment,” said Regacampf.

“We score a goal, then we receive very easy the first goal, then Sundowns come back, score the second goal, and I’m happy about the result, because we succeed to score. We played more than I think 15 minutes with 10 players. It’s not easy. We know that Sundowns at home they are strong, and they try to keep the ball, they try to have possession and try to find the space between our players.

“I think we did well. We have one week to prepare the next game and I’m sure that you’re going to see another team in Rwanda. Our team will play home and like we play against MCA [Algers] we’re going to press, we’re going to do everything to win the game.”
