Rayners Wary Of Stellies Threat

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Iqraam Rayners admits his former club Stellenbosch will pose a major challenge at Athlone Stadium.

Sundowns come off the back of their 0-0 draw against Kaizer Chiefs in mid-week and an MTN8 semi-final elimination to Orlando Pirates – who will meet Stellies in the final in Mbombela next month.

Rayners has been in exceptional form this season with four goals in six games in all competitions and will likely lead the line for Miguel Cardoso’s side in his home town.

“I think Stellenbosch have a lot of confidence, they are in the cup final and also they won their last game, it will be a tough one because they still have the fight and hunger to win but we’re up for anything that comes our way,” Rayners said.

“For us, we need to stay focus or disciplined and we need to get a result, that’s important for us as a team. I think for us to get a result, it will be difficult – we need to keep pushing, we need to be together on the field. If we can kill the game in the first half, I know it will difficult for them to come back.”

The Bafana Bafana striker has netted 28 goals with nine assists in 52 games for Sundowns since his transfer from the Cape Winelands outfit in August 2024.
