Rasebotja, cheeky Chiefs, Sekhukhune details

Posted on January 22, 2026

Today’s Orlando Pirates news wrap looks at the latest on Selaelo Rasebotja and unexpected pressure from Kaizer Chiefs.

Kaizer Chiefs close the gap to Orlando Pirates

Chiefs clocked up an important win 1-0 against Golden Arrows after the long AFCON break. The result puts them third on the Betway Premiership, two points behind leaders Sundowns and a solitary point behind Pirates, although the Sea Robbers have two games in hand. Next up for the Buccaneers is a trip to Sekhukhune on Saturday, 24 January, with kickoff at 15:30.

Rasebotja issues update on Pirates future

24-year-old Selaelo Rasebotja was signed from the now-defunct SuperSport United. However, injuries and squad competition have limited him to just 11 appearances since his arrival in July 2024.

Speaking to the media at the launch of the 2026 Nedbank Cup, the talented schemer said he was edging closer to a return:

“Right now, I am at a stage where I am slowly being integrated into full training,” Rasebotja responded when asked about his recovery by KickOff.

Maswanganyi’s Orlando Pirates future looks bleak

Patrick Maswanganyi has been unpredictable with his output at Pirates, sometimes sizzling but often disappointing. The undoubtedly gifted left-footer has featured nine times in the league out of a possible 12, chipping in with three goals and an assist. With a new signing, Andre de Jong, in the building, his game time might diminish further.
