Pitso Responds To Talk Of Becoming Next Bafana Coach

Posted on December 20, 2025

With Hugo Broos stepping down next year, Pitso Mosimane has revealed whether he’d be interested in taking over.

Mosimane previously served as Bafana head coach from 2010 to 2012 before returning to club football with Mamelodi Sundowns.

He has been without a club since leaving Iran’s Esteghlal FC in January 2025.

The former Al Ahly mentor has expressed interest in taking over from Broos, who is expected to leave after the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

Mosimane believes the timing to spearhead Bafana is ideal, saying the national team setup is in a healthy position, with success evident from the senior side down to the junior levels.

“There’s no any other better time to coach Bafana than now,” said Mosimane on MSW.

“We have a good generation of under 20s, under 17s. South Africa is in a good spot but sometimes we forget that we’ve been in this space before.”

However, Mosimane insisted he would only align himself with a solid project backed by the football association.

He continued, “Yes, I’m available for a good project but you can’t just say, ‘Okay we drew yesterday, now let’s get him and then we draw again, and then we can’t fix it’.

“Those things, I’m not in line with them.”
