Pirates to say goodbye to two attackers?

Posted on December 17, 2025

Last year, Orlando Pirates loaned out Gilberto and Katlego Otladisa, while Sandile Mthethwa made a permanent switch to AmaZulu.

With the next midseason transfer window opening on 1 January 2026, Tshegofatso Mabasa and Sinoxolo Kwayiba are likely to say goodbye.

Gilberto left Soweto after only five appearances in the Betway Premiership, while Otladisa and Mthethwa failed to earn any minutes on the pitch.

This term sees Orlando Pirates’ squad with two players linked with exits based on more than just limited game time.

TSHEGOFATSO MABASA AND SINOXOLO KWAYIBA FACE UNCERTAIN FUTURES

Before a quick look at Mabasa and Sinoxolo’s appearance data, the club has made decisions that affect both men.

The Sea Robbers are expected to officially announce the signing of Andre De Jong from Stellenbosch FC. The 29-year-old New Zealander plays the same role as Kwayiba, 25.

ORLANDO PIRATES COACH ABDESLAM OUADDOU’S WORDS

Additionally, coach Abdeslam Ouaddou confirmed to the media that his striker’s search is over. Instead, Ouaddou has put his faith in reserve team player Sifiso Luthuli, who scored on debut in the Carling Black Label Cup.

“I have to say that we don’t need a striker. We have one at the club, and we will do with him,” Ouaddou told SuperSport TV. “We’ll do with him. I think it’s our recruitment. He’s a good player, and we will deal with him,” he added.

Luthuli looks set to replace Mabasa. The 29-year-old striker made only five Betway Premiership appearances. Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou also told Robert Marawa that the 29-year-old does not fit the French-Moroccan’s playing model.

“Mabasa we know that he is efficient in the box and when he gets a chance, he puts it in the net,” Ouaddou said. “But at the same time, we are expecting a little bit more from him in terms of pressing.”

Kwayiba, expected to be replaced by De Jong, has made only two substitute appearances as an Orlando Pirates player since moving from Chippa United in July.
