Pirates star’s pending move will leave Chiefs striker out in the cold

Posted on January 19, 2026

Stellenbosch FC have reportedly identified both an Orlando Pirates and a Kaizer Chiefs transfer target.

Gavin Hunt’s side are desperate to salvage their top-flight status and will be looking to sign a quality goal scorer.

The club have identified both Tshegofatso Mabasa and Tashreeq Morris as solutions.

Now, reports suggest Hunt is leaning heavily towards Mabasa.

Stellenbosch prefer Pirates man over Chiefs striker

According to the latest transfer gossip, Stellenbosch are working on getting a deal over the line for Orlando Pirates striker Mabasa.

Amakhosi’s Morris was also linked with a move to the Cape side. New reports however suggest that Stellenbosch are only going to sign one striker from both the Soweto giants.

“The Siya crew has been informed that it was an either-or scenario for Gavin Hunt’s side. And with Mabasa seemingly getting over the line, Morris may have to slug it out at Kaizer Chiefs until the end of the season,” a Soccer Laduma report read.

Both players in similar situations

Both players will be desperate for a move away from their clubs. Mabasa has been frozen at Orlando Pirates under head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.

The Moroccan coach prefers the likes of Yanele Mbuthuma and Evidence Makgopa in attack.

Morris has suffered a similar fate at Kaizer Chiefs. The powerful attacker has featured for just one minute of action this season. His future at Naturena looks extremely bleak.

With Pirates marksman Mabasa appearing to head to Stellenbosch on a loan deal, Morris may very well have to bid his time at Naturena until the end of the season.
