Pirates star Appollis takes home R100 000

Posted on October 4, 2025

Oswin Appollis stood out as Orlando Pirates beat Siwelele FC in the Carling Knockout last 16.

With the fans voting for the Man of the Match in this event, Appollis earned the most calls.

Synonymous with the Carling Knockout, the Man of the Match goes home with a cool R100 000 prize.

ORLANDO PIRATES’ OSWIN APPOLLIS NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH IN THE CARLING KNOCKOUT

The 24-year-old winger from Bishop Lavis, Cape Town, was dynamic.

With Siwelele setting a deep block, Appollis consistently dropped deep to collect the ball, carrying it into the final third, creating chances with clever dribbles and combination play out wide.

He was brilliant in tight spaces where most would have lost possession.

Speaking to SuperSport after the game, Appollis humbly suggested that the matchwinner, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, was the best performer.

The former Ajax Cape Town star said he will share the prize with his young Mbokazi.

“What a brilliant goal from [Mbekezeli] Mbokazi,” Appollis said. “To be honest, I think he deserved it [Man of the Match] more today, because he was fighting and defending.

“I’ll definitely have to cut [my cheque] because what a goal. I’ll definitely share with him,” Appollis concluded.

Appollis joined Pirates from Polokwane City in July. Since then, he’s found four goals and two assists in 11 appearances.

Next challenge? Bafana Bafana duty. Appollis has been called up for the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers. South Africa face Zimbabwe on Friday, 10 October at Moses Mabhida Stadium (18:00), then Rwanda on Tuesday, 14 October at Mbombela Stadium (18:00).
