Pirates legend tells Kaizer Chiefs to get a proper striker

Posted on January 15, 2026

Orlando Pirates legend Dan Malesela feels Kaizer Chiefs need another striker if they are to challenge for the title.

Amakhosi have signed three strikers this season, but only Flavio Da Silva seems to be finding goals regularly.

Two other strikers, Khanyisa Mayo and Etiosa Ighodaro, have not yet found their feet in Chiefs colours.

Despite Da Silva scoring four goals, Malesela feels Kaizer Chiefs need to get another striker.

“They also need to add variety to their wing options. I am uncertain about their new striker, Flavio Da Silva,” he told KickOff.

“Strikers can be difficult to find, and I understand that, but I haven’t seen consistent performance from him,” he added.

Dance says Kaizer Chiefs needs a striker

In the CAF Confederation Cup, Amakhosi have been lacklustre with their strikers failing to score in the two matches they played so far.

A new striker could enhance Kaizer Chiefs’ chances of progressing further in the competition, especially with Mayo currently injured.

Ashley Du Preez has not scored yet and is not expected to play a significant role this season. Amakhosi’s youth product, Naledi Hlongwane, may be given an opportunity upfront, as he has shown promise during the pre-season.

Despite the lack of a quality striker, “Dance” said the Soweto giants needed a defensive midfielder.

“Chiefs are likely to announce new signings soon. There’s a need for a backup player for Sibongiseni Mthethwa,” added Malesela.

Amakhosi resume their Betway Premiership campaign against Golden Arrows next week.
