Pirates Leave It Late To Move Level With Downs

Posted on November 25, 2025

Orlando Pirates left it late to claim a hard-fought 1-0 win over Chippa United in a Betway Premiership encounter at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday night.

A glorious opportunity fell to Yanela Mbuthuma just 10 minutes in who scuffed his shot missing the target.

Two minutes later, Dumisani Msibi got down well to make a save from Sipho Mbule’s well struck low shot.

Mbuthuma was again in the thick of things, this time missing a tap-in after Tshepang Moremi had whipped in a beautiful low cross in the 18th minute.

Msibi then denied Mbuthuma from a point-blank range in the 51st minute.

In the 74th minute, supersub Evidence Makgopa gave Pirates the 1-0 lead after Relebohile Mofokeng found Hotto in space before the Namibian winger found Makgopa at the far post who slotted home.

Sipho Chaine rescued Pirates moments later with a match-saving tackle before Appollis rounded off the scoring in the 94th minute for a 2-0 win.

As a result, the Buccaneers moved level on points (25) with Mamelodi Sundowns at the summit, with a game in hand, while the Chilli Boys remain rooted at the base of the table.
