Pirates Hammer Downs To Move Top, Chiefs Drop Points

A rampant Orlando Pirates thumped Mamelodi Sundowns 5-1 to go top of the DStv Diski Challenge table while Kaizer Chiefs dropped points once again to extend winless run to seven matches.

In the top-of-the-table clash, Sundowns scored first through Xavier Jodamus and went into the break leading 1-0. Pirates pulled a strong come back in the second period scoring five goals through Oscar Gqeke, Vempi Masilela, Joy Manana and Seth Green’s brace to leapfrog Masandawana at the summit.

Chiefs dropped points once again for the seventh consecutive time. Daine Klate’s Durban City scored first, but 11 minutes later Chiefs equalized. City were reduced to 10-man just before halftime, but Amakhosi failed to capitalize.

Stellenbosch FC hammered Marumo Gallants 3-0 to keep their chase at the top close with Keanan Johannesen scoring a hat-trick. This was good results for the Cape Winelands side especially after playing a 1-1 draw against Durban City at home last weekend.
