Pirates & Chiefs Renew Soweto Derby Rivalry In DDC

Posted on November 15, 2025

The Soweto Derby takes centre stage in this weekend’s DStv Diski Challenge with Orlando Pirates and arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs locking horns.

Solomon Mahlangu Stadium is the place to be this weekend, with third-placed Stellenbosch FC opening the day against second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns. The Cape Winelands side is on a two-match winning run and hope to continue their good form. After 10 games, Stellies accumulated 19 points and scored 21 goals. They only failed to score twice this season which was against Pirates and Siwelele FC.

Sundowns dropped five points in the last two games losing to Pirates 5-1 before playing to a 1-1 draw against Magesi FC. They find themselves five points behind league leaders Pirates. 20 points in 10 games is what Sundowns is sitting on after netting 22 goals. They failed to score once this season which was the 1-0 loss against Richards Bay FC.

Pirates vs Chiefs

Once the Soweto Derby fixture arrives, it’s a standstill moment in the country. Form doesn’t really count when it comes to the game of rivals. Chiefs are currently not doing well but they cannot be judged based on that when they face the Buccaneers. But the winning momentum for the Bucs can come in handy as they are high in confidence.

Pirates seem to be running away this season after collecting 25 points in 10 games and are comfortable at the top with five points clear. Roscoe Krieling has created a machine in Pirates that has goals coming in all angles. They remain the only side in the DDC that has scored in all games this season.

Amakhosi’s title defense is in shambles as they seem to be struggling to get their form. They’ve gone seven games without a win, with two losses and five draws. They find themselves in seventh place with 14 points after 10 games and are 11 points behind league leaders Pirates.
