Pirates Chase Consistency As DDC Makes Return

Posted on January 9, 2026

The DStv Diski Challenge returns this weekend after over six weeks’ break as Orlando Pirates have a chance to continue where they left off at the summit.

The DDC took a break at the end of November 2025 after 13 games played, with Pirates leading at the top with 31 points, and Mamelodi Sundowns following in second place with 29 points, meanwhile defending champions Kaizer Chiefs are sitting in fifth place.

This group of Young Buccaneers could be the first to win the DDC title in 11 years should they go all the way, but that will require consistency in the last 17 matches.

The other highlight is Chippa United midfielder Asanele Bonani, who has been outstanding for the Chili Boys, scoring 12 goals in 13 matches, and he is the current top goalscorer in the league, followed by Sundowns’ Bennet Mokoena with eight goals.

The return of DDC this weekend will be at Mpumalanga Stadium in KwaZulu-Natal, where Pirates will play against AmaZulu FC, who themselves have blown hot and cold this season.

Stellenbosch FC, who had difficulties this season, will battle Polokwane City, who has had some good results this campaign, including beating Pirates.

On Sunday, Durban City will start their journey against Lamontville Golden Arrows and will be without Daine Klate, who recently parted ways with City during the December break.

The weekend will be closed off by Richards Bay facing Chiefs. Amakhosi aim to keep the pressure on Pirates and Sundowns and keep their title hopes alive. Meanwhile, Bay is also within touching distance of the title.

Saturday fixtures:
12h30: Stellenbosch FC vs Polokwane City
14h30: AmaZulu FC vs Orlando Pirates

Sunday fixtures:
12h30: Durban City vs Lamontville Golden Arrows
14h30: Richards Bay FC vs Kaizer Chiefs
